Programs

HHSSC offers the following programs: Recreational, Novice Competitive, Solos/Duets, and Skills & Drills (see program descriptions below). Programs vary from 1.5 hr/week to 5 hrs/week. All programs at Halton Hills Synchro follow Synchro Canada's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) plan. The Synchro Ontario Trillium Program involves the step-by-step instruction and evaluation of on-deck, swimming and synchro-specific figure and routine skills. Swimmers receive a Trillium pin and certificate as they complete each level.
Swimmers are expected to participate in a Family Show in December and a Finale Showcase in May. Our swimmers also compete at Novice and Invitational meets hosted by Synchro Ontario and neighbouring clubs. Meets are single day events typically held on Saturdays. Swimmers participate in age-specific events, where the focus is on having fun while developing self-confidence and teamwork.

Recreational

Practice day
Sunday
Practice duration
1.5 hours/week
Program duration
September-May
Pre-requests
Deep End Test* or Swimmer 3 level

Recreational swimmers learn the basic skills and movements of Synchro while working on their Trillium levels. Recreational swimmers also work on developing on-deck and stroke/swimming skills. Swimmers learn a group routine for presentation at the Club Shows in December and May. Recreational swimmers are also invited to one Novice Figures meet and one fun Routine meet in the Spring. Swimmers are placed in the most age- and skill-appropriate team following an assessment period in September. Meet fees are included in the registration fees for this program.

*The Deep End Test test involves swimming two widths of the Georgetown Indoor Pool (any stroke) and a surface support (i.e. treading water or eggbeater) for 60 seconds.  This ensures that swimmers are ready to swim safely in the deep end with a group.

Novice Competitive

Practice day
Wednesday, Sunday
Practice duration
4-5 hours/week
Program duration
September-May
Pre-requests
Age 7+, Trillium 1 level

Novice Competitive swimmers train twice per week and continue to develop their Synchro skills as they progress through the Trillium/Star levels 2-10. This program focusses on athlete development and, in addition to pool work, each practice includes dryland training to help swimmers develop their flexibility, strength and teamwork skills. Swimmers learn a group routine for presentation at the Club Showcase events in December and May and compete in 2-4 Routine meets throughout the season. Novice swimmers also participate in two Novice Figures meets (November and April). Swimmers are placed in the most age- and skill-appropriate team following an assessment period in September. Meet fees are included in the registration fees for this program.

This program is recommended for returning swimmers who desire an extra challenge. Formation of solos/duets is at the discretion of the Head Coach and Executive - decisions are based on pool time and coach availability, and commitment of the swimmers. Swimmers under 15 must swim in the Precompetitive program and any Solo/Duet time (if approved) is an additional 1 hour/week. Swimmers 15 and over who have passed Trillium 6/Star 6 may swim Solos/Duets independently of Precompetitive Program upon approval.

Skills & Drills

Practice day
Wednesday and/or Sunday
Practice duration

This program gives swimmers extra time to work in small groups or one-on-one with a coach.  These sessions are great for swimmers preparing for meets or for swimmers desiring extra practice time to strengthen their skills.
